Obituary of Pearl Dorothy Swain

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Pearl Dorothy Swain on April 15, 2018 at Shannex Harbourstone, Sydney River, NS.

Born in Trenton N.S., February 10, 1916, Pearl was the daughter of Kenneth and Sarah (Tate) Cameron.  Pearl is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mom grew up at Frasers Mountain, and attended the Frasers Mountain one room school and New Glasgow High School.  Mother and Dad farmed for many years on Andersons Mountain which she dearly loved.  Mother’s love of nature and her great gift for gardening was wonderful.  She belonged to the Westville Garden Club for many years and we must not forget her poetry.  Mother wrote poetry from the age of 12.  She had many poems in the Evening News, and had a book published with some of the poems she liked the best. In 1964, Mother started work at Riverview Adult Residential Centre, Riverton for 18 years.  She enjoyed people, loved her family and grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles; brother Earl; sisters Isobel and Eleanor; and a daughter-in-law Patricia.

She is survived by children Stephen, Anderson’s Mountain; Eleanor and Kenneth, Marion Bridge, Cape Breton; James and Faye, Lourdes; Richard, Westville; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harbourstone, St. Anne’s Bay for their excellent care and loving ways to our Mother.

Mrs. Swain rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Thursday April 19   Her funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Gary Sinclair officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.  Memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
