Marlayne MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marlayne Irene Joudrey MacDonald, age 47, on April 5, 2021. Marlayne grew up in Westville, NS and spent most of her life there. She graduated from Westville High School in 1991. She worked at the Atlantic Superstore for 18 years before changing careers to security and making the decision to attend college. Following graduation from NSCC’s corrections program, Marlayne worked with the Commissionaires at Nova Institution, a job she thoroughly enjoyed until she had stop on October 19, 2020 when she became ill. She loved gardening and her plants both inside and outside. She was a member of the Albion boxing Club and Ground Search and Rescue. Marlayne fought courageously and with the most inspiring attitude against small cell lung cancer for 480 days. She was surrounded by love during her final moments.

Marlayne is survived and greatly missed by her best friend and companion of 18 years Colin Cook. Her mother Violet Hughes (Lloyd); sister Helen Fraser (Glenn); brother Lorne Joudrey (Denise). In-laws Dennis and Sophie Cook; Two daughters Jessica (Josh) and Miranda (Andrew) her son Jordan and stepdaughter Briar. Her children shared Marlayne’s unique sense of humour and determination. She will be dearly missed by special niece Kyla, and her beautiful granddaughter Alayna Grace. Mar wanted nothing more to meet her two grand babies due in July. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She is predeceased by her father Barry Joudrey and grandparents, Wilfred and Irene Salter and Seymour and Irene Joudrey.

Mar will be forever remembered her mischievous grin, stubbornness and kind heart.

Special thanks to the “Chemo Girls”, the palliative care team of amazing nurses and doctors, and the VON for their compassionate care and service they gave Marlayne throughout her fight.

As we honour Marlayne’s wishes, no service or visitation will be held. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
