Obituary of Jean Cassidy
It is with deep sadness that we the family of Marjorie ‘Jean’ Cassidy announce her passing at Valley View Villa in Riverton, on Thursday January 30th, 2025
Born and raised in beautiful Island East River on the family farm, as the second of three children to parents Clifford and Marjorie Fraser. Jean held a lifelong heartfelt connection to the area and was pleased her childhood home remained within her family for cherished visits.
Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to all that knew her. She was known to many in the area for her 35 plus years of work with the Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in New Glasgow, where her gentle demeanour and kind smile greeted all she engaged with. Jean held many special and lifelong friendships from her years working with the bank. After retirement Jean worked alongside her husband and family at R&K Variety (formerly the Pink Panther) in New Glasgow, shining with her grace and goodwill towards the community and neighbourhood.
Selflessly, the most important thing to Jean was to always care and show love for her family and friends. Her cooking and baking were famous among those that tasted it and she always made sure everyone had their unique favorites for special occasions, or just because. She relished in visiting with anyone who would stop by and was always an expert listener. Jean never passed judgment and shared her quiet wisdom, always making sure there was something for everyone to eat. As the years grew quiet, Jean appreciated staying close to home with family present and enjoying the company of her special friend and dog, Herbie. Jean became even sweeter as time progressed, spending her last handful of years with her extended family and friends at the Valley View Villa in Riverton.
Jean was predeceased by her adoring husband of over 60 years, Raymond, her brother Bob (Pheeny) Fraser and sorrowfully by her three sons, Bruce, Rick and David. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Karen and Cheryl (Huck), daughter-in-law, Paula Cassidy, and her sister Judie (John) Underwood. Jean is also survived by grandchildren, Pam (Tim), Tanya, Graham (Dorothy), Ashley (Mike), and Steven. Great grandchildren, Brett (Hannah), Zachery, Veronica, Elliott, and great-great grandson, Myles David. Jean also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the support, kindness and compassion from all the staff at Valley View Villa as Jean went through her final journey. This will never be forgotten.
Jean often reflected on her longevity and good health as attributed to regular walking and movement. Let Jean remind us of this one piece of wisdom and go for a walk. A celebration of life will take place at a later date when the sun is shining, and the flowers are in bloom.
