Obituary of JoAnn MacDonald
Alma JoAnn (Chabassol) MacDonald
It is with great sadness the family of JoAnn MacDonald announces her sudden passing at the Aberdeen Hospital on February 3rd, 2025 at the age of 72.
JoAnn was the spouse of Kevin James MacDonald and daughter of Reginald Alexander Chabassol and Marion Evaline (MacKenzie) Chabassol.
The Portuguese translation of Alma is “soul”, and Joann was surely the soul of our family. The spirted leader in all things Holy, a devout Catholic and an active member of the CWL Holy Name Parish.
Early in JoAnn’s life she was an ambassador for her town and community as she was crowned Queen of Westville’s July 1st celebrations. She was also a participant in the Westville Dunvegan Pipe Band.
JoAnn is survived by her husband and best friend Kevin MacDonald, her four sons Scott (Sheri Muir), their children Jacquelin (Edmonton), Alexander (Vancouver); Troy Muir (Mexico); Mitchell (Megan) MacDonald (Hardwood Hill); William (Rachel) MacDonald, their children Barrett, Sloane (Fort MacMurray). Also Surviving are her sisters Janet (Keith) Appleton, Catherine (Dave) Lochead; brother Francis (Jan) Chabassol; sisters-in-law Catherine Boswell (late Alan), Anna Yuill (late Roy), Margaret Patton (Everil), Jeanette Hermanson (late Jim), Josie Green (Gilbert), Verna MacDonald (Tom Mahaffey), Cathy Curtis MacDonald (late Gerard); brothers-in-law Hugh (Carol), Daniel (Charmaine), Frank (Connie); and many nieces and nephews were dear to JoAnn’s heart. Her pride and joy the highlight of her life was her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents Reginald and Marion Chabassol, sister Margaret, nephew Reggie Chabassol, her parents-in-law William Joseph and Mary Catherine MacDonald, brothers-in-law Gerard MacDonald, Michael B. Walsh, nephews William Michael Walsh, Evan Daniel MacDonald.
JoAnn loved family dearly and she will be missed by all of us forever.

Visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home Friday, February 7th, 2025 from 6-9pm. Funeral will be held at the Holy Name Parish on February 8th, 2025 at 11am. There will be a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
