Obituary of James Daniel Kennedy

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our brother James Daniel Kennedy, Born in New Glasgow, NS to Danny and Irene (MacNaughton) Kennedy on October 27, 1942.

Jim passed away in Prince George, British Columbia on October 23, 2024.

Jim graduated from Westville High School and he loved to dance when he was young and could be found at many, many dances. He was a member of the Westville High School Army Cadet Corp for many, many years and attended summer camp where he held the rank of Sergeant. He was known as one of the best cadets in “B company”. Jim was also a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders where he took a cooking course within his unit.

Two of Jim’s enjoyments in life, were his favorite sports in which he loved throughout his whole life were fishing and hunting, whether it was on Cape Breton Island or British Columbia he could be found doing both and enjoyed every minute he could.

He was a wilderness guide for many people who wanted to go fishing and hunting for days and even weeks. He took great enjoyment in sharing what he loved.

 In 1977, Jim moved to British Columbia where he worked at Gilmore Construction Engineering in West  Bank and also Peter Brothers Paving in Penticton as an equipment operator.

He is survived by his friend, Joyce; his step daughter, Chrissy O’Brien and his step grandson, Caleb O’Brien; his brother, Bill (Colleen) Kennedy of Burton, NB; his sisters: Colleen Zdan of Duncan, BC, Cathy (John) White of Sussex, NB and Mary Fraser of Pleasant Valley, NS; his brother-in-law, David Cormier of Westville, NS and by his sister-in-law, Faye Kennedy of Westville, NS; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his stepson, Gerry O’Brien; his brother, John Vernon Kennedy; his sisters: June Elizabeth Ann Cormier and Martha Jean Fraser and his brothers-in-law, Charles Fraser, David Zdan and Elwood Fraser.

The interment will take place in St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Broad Cove, Inverness County, Cape Breton on May 13, 2025 at 2pm. Inverness always held a special place in his heart.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jimmy can be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
