Obituary of Barbara Jean Hunter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Barbara Jean Hunter of Westville, NS at the age of 75. She passed peacefully surrounded by family at the Aberdeen Hospital Saturday, April 12,2025. Born in Westville, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Larade.

Mom stayed at home to care for and raise her family. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing darts and cards with friends and family and a good cup of tea.  She loved her family, children, grand-children and great grand-children, who all called her ‘Nanny Barb’.

She will be sadly missed by Dean Hunter , children, Anne Hunter (Clarence Ohrling), Dean Hunter (Barbie Muir-Scott), Donna Little (Jeromey Little), Sisters Patricia MacDonald (Dave MacDonald), Diane MacDonald (Lester MacDonald) and Sharon Dooley ,  grandchildren, Jessica Emery (Anthony Skerry) , John Emery (Jocelyn Cormier) , Abby MacCallum-Hunter, Emma Hunter, Andrew Little, chosen grandchildren, Simone, Mark , Leia, great grand children, Cohen Cormier , Peyton Cormier and Hunter Skerry. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by parents John and Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Larade, brother Bill Larade, sisters Marion Stairs, Sheila Davidson, Valerie MacGillvray; brother-in-law James Dooley, Winstin Stairs and sister-in-law Peggy Larade.

No visitation as per Mom’s request. Funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, April 16 at Eagles Funeral Home with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Reception will be held following the funeral at the Westville Legion 12-2pm.
