Obituary of Robert Hugh Fraser
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Hugh Fraser of New Glasgow, formerly of West River Station, on May 11th, 2025.
Robert was born in New Glasgow on June 29th, 1954. He was a member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Gairloch where he sang in the choir, and also sang a solo there when he was 14 years old. He attended school in West River Station, and graduated High School at the age of 15. He was an avid reader and loved learning.
Robert was a longtime employee of Michelin Tire, where he retired after 30 years. He then went on to work with Nova Scotia Power in Dartmouth for several years. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 1928, and the Nova Scotia Power Labour Pool for 6 years. Robert was a longtime member and served as Past Master of the Curran Masonic Lodge No. 68 in Hopewell, and later joined Keith Masonic Lodge No. 23 in Stellarton where he received his 25-year jewel. Robert was known as an avid sports fan and loved the Toronto Maple Leaf’s. He was a member of the Westville Gentleman’s Hockey League, he played fastball, and he also enjoyed golf. Robert was also very dedicated to his loving family, and many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved mother Margie, sisters Rosalie (Serge) Lavoie, Cathy (Jack) Lewis, and brothers John (Kelly), Glen (Kim), Eldred (Lori), Derek (Helen), and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his cat Bubby. He is also survived by special friends Matthew and Patricia MacWilliam.
Robert was predeceased by his father Robert ‘Bert’ Fraser, brother David (Kathy), and sister Barb and husband Bill Hennigar.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15th, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm from the Eagles Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 16th from St. Andrew’s Church in Gairloch, with Rev. Bonnie Langille and Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to VON Pictou County.
Keith Masonic Lodge No. 23 will meet at the funeral home at 6:45pm on Thursday, May 15th to conduct their service.
