Obituary of Shawn Michael Wilson

We lost our beloved Shawn far too soon. Life was not always easy for him. Shawn fought a long and difficult battle with schizophrenia. His mounting pain and sadness became unbearable. Unfortunately, he died by suicide on May 24, 2025. Although his illness stole a large chunk of his adult life, there were so many treasured times along the way.

Shawn’s devoted Mom, Chris Wilson (nee Van den Eynden) was his unwavering and number one supporter. This was so, even when their going was very hard. Chris, we thank and admire you for your remarkable and steadfast commitment.

Some might wonder about the what ifs. We focus on the great memories. There are many, some for certain to laugh out loud about.

For those who knew Shawn, knew he had a beautiful mind and such a very kind heart. His wit and sense of humour were hard to match. But back to his kind heart. Right up until the hours before his passing, true to character, Shawn thought of others and set about to do some good deeds.

Our dear Shawn had many interests in his life. He loved his time in the air as a pilot. He worked in the oil patch at many jobs. He was not too bad at assisting  Eugene McLean (another big supporter in his life) with flooring tasks. Shawn prided himself on being an inventor. Some of his ideas were not too wonky. Truth be told, each patent he pursued was always for the benefit of others.

We hope you will glean that Shawn was well loved. He had many supporters in his corner. Just wish he were still here to put some loving arms around him.

Shawn was born November 3, 1973. Besides his Mom (Chris Wilson), Shawn will be remembered by his Van den Eynden uncles and aunts; Martin, Anthony (Charmaine), Anne-Marie, Elizabeth (Rob), Gary, and Kim and all their extended families. And on the Wilson side, his surviving uncle Stan (Christie), who were always supportive of Shawn, his great uncle Lawrence Cluney, his aunt Marlene and their extended families.

Family that loved Shawn but passed before him include; Eugene McLean (his Mom’s life partner), maternal grandparents (Antonious and Antonia Van den Eynden), paternal grandparents (Leonard and Rosalind Wilson), father John Wilson, uncle and aunts Jim Wilson, Marilyn Wilson, and John (Cathy) Van den Eynden.

A service for Shawn will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 7, 2025 at Eagles Funeral Chapel. If you wish to make a donation, please consider your local SPCA in recognition of Shawn’s true kindness towards all animals.
