Obituary of Joanie Salter
Joanie Cameron (Chesnutt) Salter, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Born on April 6, 1951 in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Marion Isabelle (Cameron) Chesnutt from Union Centre.
Joanie worked for numerous decades as a Resident Counselor at the Riverview Residential Centre in Stellarton and took great pride in her work there as a union representative for many years. She was also very proud to work in the same facility where her brother Jimmy resided.
Joanie was known for her unique sense of humor, quick wit, her approach to life as well as her strength and determation. She enjoyed reading, shopping at thrift stores and road trips with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandaugher, who was the light of Joanie's life since the day she was born, and her precious great-grandaughter.
Joanie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Henry; sister Cathy; brothers Jimmy and George . Joanie is survived by her son Lloyd, granddaughter Jamie (David) and great-grand daughter Remi Joan.
She is also survived by her sisters: Jeanne, Nancy MacDonald, Ruth Laseur and Tris; and brothers: Mike, Robert, John, Kelly and Tony.
Cremation has taken place. As per Joanie's wishes there will be no visitation or memorial service. A joint committal service for her and her husband, Henry, will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery on Salter Road, Pleasant Valley at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24th 2025.
Donations in Joanie's memory may be made to the Pictou West or Pictou East Food Bank.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
