Celebration of Life
Obituary of Art Jenkins
Marrell Arthur Jenkins ("Art"), age 84, of Melmerby Beach, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 11, 1941, Art was the son of the late Royal and Elizabeth Jenkins. He grew up alongside his siblings Rowan, Irvin, Doraine, and Marlene, and carried a strong sense of duty, generosity, and humour throughout his life.
Art served with distinction in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1957 to 1977, working as a navigator on search and rescue missions aboard Tracker aircraft based out of Shearwater, NS. Following his military career, he continued to serve his community as a Cleaning Services Officer at DND Stadacona for 15 years. In 1980, he and his better half, Marie, began operating the Melmerby Beach canteen — a beloved local fixture they ran together until 1999.
Art was a man of many talents and passions. He loved woodworking and was always ready to lend a hand. He generously volunteered his time, preparing tax returns for local seniors and helping organize multiple community and volunteer initiatives. A devoted student of war history and an avid hockey fan, Art was known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and unwavering commitment to family and community.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie; his daughter, Kenda Dolomont; and his cherished grandchildren, Connor Dolomont (Kelly) and Hunter Dolomont. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held on Sunday, June 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Ward One Social and Recreation Centre, 487 Brother Street, New Glasgow. All who knew and loved Art are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you carry forward his spirit of giving by performing an act of kindness in his memory.
