Obituary of Robert Hans Meyer

Obituary of Robert Hans Meyer

It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert Hans Meyer announces his passing on the 21st of June 2025 at the age of 84 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS.

Robert was born on April 29th, 1941 in Aarau, Switzerland. After training as an instrumentation specialist, he left his home country in search of adventure in Canada. He embarked on a series of technical jobs in Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland, and eventually Petit Rocher, New Brunswick, where he met his beloved first wife, Murielle. From there he made his way to his final professional workplace at Michelin Tires in Granton, NS, where he worked for 26 years while raising his family in Westville, NS.

A longtime member of the Masonic Fraternity, Robert belonged to numerous masonic orders and held leadership roles in many of them, including serving as deputy grand master for Pictou County District, being a past master of the Western Star Lodge and holding the office of secretary for more than ten years. He was a strong believer in providing service to the community where he lived. Throughout his life he shared his love of adventure with friends and family, and often regaled visitors with humorous stories related to his travels. Robert had a real sense of do-it-yourself, was an early adopter of many new technologies (introducing computers to production lines at Michelin), and even designed and built his own house!

Never one to shy away from a new interesting project, he was a person who was happy to learn a new language, see a new place, or even just go for a really long walk (3-month pilgrimage in Europe, anyone?!). Following his retirement, he had the great joy of finding a second love and shared his enjoyment of exploration, gourmet meals, and good friends with dear Nicole.

Robert was pre-deceased by his first wife Murielle Marie Rita (neé Lagacé), and is survived by his wife Nicole Rose-Marie Roy, his sister Anne-Marie Zipperlen (Otto Zipperlen), children Andrea Meyer (Patrick Hill), Stephan Meyer (Deanna Young), and step-son René-Gilles Roy (Josée Chapdelaine) as well as grandchildren Helena and Julien (Hill-)Meyer.

There will be a Masonic Service at 2:30pm, followed by visitation from 3 to 4pm, concluding with a celebration of life at 4pm. Funeral services will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, NS (1611 North Main Street) on 27 June 2025. In Robert’s memory, donations may be made to the charity closest to your heart. Should you be undecided, the family suggests either the Canadian Lung Association or The Alzheimer’s Association of Canada.
