Obituary of Hilda Maude Elizabeth Allen

ALLEN, HILDA MAUDE ELIZABETH.   Peacefully at Ivey’s Terrace, Trenton on July 18 at age 96. Survived by children Sharon (Ken), Westville, David (Tom), Toronto and foster daughter Lois (Calgary); grandchildren Aaron, Ryan, Jared, Sarah and Leah; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty Rundle Fitt; numerous cousins. Predeceased by parents Lionel Fitt and Josephina Priest; husband Bill (2019); infant son Bruce; brother Edward, sisters Audrey, Beatrice and Jean, and brother-in-law Gilbert MacKay. 

Hilda Maude Elizabeth Fitt Allen was born on October 6, 1928 to Lionel Fitt and Josephina Priest Fitt of Stellarton. She and Bill married in 1946, starting a family with Bruce who died in infancy, followed by Sharon, David, and foster-parenting Lois. Bill predeceased her in September, 2019.  Hilda and Bill were very active members at St. Paul United Church in Westville.  Hilda sang in the choir, taught Mission Band, Explorers, Sunday school, led the intermediate choir, and was a member of the United Church Women. She served as a congregational representative to Pictou Presbytery and attended Maritime Conference. For 40 years she and Bill and the family attended Berwick Camp.  She and Bill sang in numerous choirs, were members of a square dancing group, and spent much time with the Good Terns camping group.  Hilda was a member of the Eastern Star.  She and Bill enjoyed their friends, travel and being hospitable.  Hilda had an incredible memory and could tell stories for hours. 

Visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2 at Eagles Funeral Home, 1611 North Main Street, Westville, funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul United Church, Westville or a donation of your choice.  The family expresses its thanks to the staff at Ivey’s Terrace for the wonderful care they provided to Hilda.
