Obituary of Everett Thompson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Everett (Bear) Thompson on July 22 at the age of 98. He resided at Ivey's Terrace Nursing Home with his wife, Irene. He received wonderful care there and made many new friends.
Everett grew up in Westville and was a very popular left-handed pitcher for the Stellarton Albions fast ball team and the Truro Bear Cats. The Bear Cats went on to win the Nova Scotia Championship and perhaps this is where his popular nickname of "Bear" came from. Decades later he was called upon to throw the starting pitch for the re-opening of the refurbished Albion Ball Field. He was inducted into the Pictou County Hall of Fame for his skilled pitching. He also enjoyed watching hockey, boxing, collecting coins and stamps and, of course, dogs. He was an Elder at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Bear was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a true friend to many.
Everett was predeceased by his parents, George Thompson and Irene (Ross) Thompson, both of Westville, also a daughter, Sheila Sanders of Sylvester.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 69 years, Irene, Ruth (Bookie) MacDonald, Westville, Joyce (Brian) Thompson, Sydney River, Greg (Amanda) Thompson. Stellarton and also by his grandchildren, Sherry, Linda, Jared, Dylan, Piper and Amelia.
Ev worked at Claritone and then Micheline Tire for many years. He held so much respect for everyone he met and everyone loved him.
There are no services being held in honor of his requests. Internment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
He will be truly missed by many. Until we meet again...
