Obituary of Melvin Alexander Munsie
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Melvin Alexander Munsie announce his peaceful passing in the early hours of August 5, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Born on March 12, 1938, in Westville, Nova Scotia, Melvin was the son of the late Melvin and Mary Munsie.
Melvin spent his life as a skilled and hardworking contractor, building homes and providing renovations throughout the community. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his love for his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Betty (Maloney) Munsie, of Westville. Together they raised four sons: Gary Munsie (Bernadette), Jack Munsie (Michelle), Stephen Munsie (Sylvie Germain), and the late Charles Munsie, who passed away on August 26, 2024. Sisters, Teresa MacKay (Westville) and Ellen Westbury (Hamilton Ont); Brother, John Munsie ( Truro).
Proud grandfather to Noah Munsie (Georgia, USA), Rebecca Munsie (Virginia, USA), Natasha, Melissa Munsieand Sarah Munsie (daughters of the late Charles Munsie), he also leaves behind several step-grandchildren and extended family who held a special place in his heart.
Melvin will be remembered for his quiet strength, work ethic, and the love he carried for his family and his home. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and care.
A special thnk you to Melvins caregivers for their exceptional care over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Melvin’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, or to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Pictou County, both of whom provided compassionate care in his final days.
Visitation will be held on August 7th from 7-9pm at the Eagles Funeral Home in Westville. A funeral service will take place on August 8th at Holy Name Catholic Church in Westville at 11am. Burial will take place in Holy Name Cemetery.
