Obituary of Beverly Mabel Mailman

December 9, 1934 – August 3, 2025 On the morning of August 3, 2025, our hearts were saddened by the passing of Beverly Mabel Mailman. She left behind a legacy of kindness, empathy, and devotion to her family, friends, and community.

Born and raised in Pictou County, Beverly made Westville her home for the past 52 years. She was the daughter of the late Mabel Viola (Smith) and Henry Wilson Hartling.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband; Gerald Mailman, and her children: Dale Greene (passed away July 29, 2025) (Norma) -sons: Dale Bruce and Erin. Norma MacLean– children: Gail, Kelly, Mark(deceased) (Elwood Reid). Melody– children: Osmund, Andrea, Timothy (David Boudreau). Kendall Mailman– daughters: Megan and Stevie. Eleanor (James Bond) – children: Joshua, Justin, Kelsey. April Greene– daughters: Katelyn and Autumn. Gerry Mark Mailman– son: Tyler. Step-son: Russell Mailman (Charlene)

Beverly loved marching behind the Dunvegan Girls’ Pipe Band and dedicated countless hours volunteering at the local hockey rink. Her devotion to her community was recognized when she received the Volunteer of the Year Award for the province of Nova Scotia by the lieutenant governor in July 2000. Music was one of her greatest joys; she sang in choirs, played the ukulele for residents in local nursing homes, and could often be found strumming her guitar or omnichord. She loved attending concerts and jam sessions, and she rejoiced in the accomplishments of others as much as her own.

Her hands were rarely still, she was a gifted knitter who made hats, socks, mittens, and sweaters for friends and family, and donated many items to those in need. As the wife of a lobster fi sherman, Beverly spent many summers cooking and selling lobster from her residence in Westville. Beverly also loved to dance and bowl, and was always determined to beat her own high score. She enjoyed traveling and going for long drives, curling up with a good book, and watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune. For her church, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Westville, she organized an annual variety concert for the anniversary weekend faithfully making fudge each year for the occasion. She spent years in the choir singing praises in church every Sunday and at many funerals. Beverly was a wonderful mother who spent countless hours in the kitchen. She was an incredible cook and baker, known for her homemade bread, biscuits, and cookies that brought family and friends together.

Beverly’s heart for service and her love for people touched all who knew her.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of the Pictou County VON, who cared for Beverly at home in recent years.

As per Beverly’s wishes, no service will be held. A celebration of her life will take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall in Westville on August 23rd at 2pm. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Westville, a place she held dear to her heart.
