Obituary of Karen Ann O’Laney

Karen Ann O’Laney 

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Karen Ann O’Laney on August 24th 2025 in the Aberdeen Hospital Surrounded by Family. Karen is the daughter of Charles & Mildred (Byrne) MacKinnon. 

Karen worked the majority of her life as a PCW, always caring for anyone and everyone. Her huge heart also cared for the many animals she encountered, like the crows in her backyard, who caw for her to the many kitties and grand kitties she spoiled with treats and toys. She loved to make things with her hands; she always had a project on the go. She quilted, knitted, painted, and crocheted. Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren, making sure they felt so loved and spoiled. When she wasn’t spoiling grand kids and kitties she was traveling, taking motorcycle rides with Dave, searching for treasures, rock hunting and playing Bingo with her sisters

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, David O’Laney; daughters Sam O’Laney, Sarah (Dylan) Knowles and Elisha O’Laney; Grandchildren, Amber, Kyra, Coady, Corvin, Summer, Kaylee, Mady, and Luna; Brothers Chuckie (Anna), Clarey (Juanette), Jamie (Janet), and David (Dene); Sisters Charlene, Donna (Dennis) and Gwen.

A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday August 27th  at 11am in the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. 

Karen will be continuing her journey at the Dalhousie Medical for cancer research as per her wishes.
