Obituary of Jonathon Charles Gray

It is with great sadness that we announce Jonathon “Jon” Charles Gray of Durham passed away on September 7, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital.

Jon worked as a millwright and starting working at Michelin Tire at age 16 with Steel Pro. He was eventually hired on by Michelin a few years later. He was very mechanical, and could his put hand to anything. He could build, make or weld anything from nothing and make it work, he was Jon of all trades.

Jon had a great sense of humour that made anyone laugh. His beautiful smile and big brown eyes could win you over in an instant. He loved his devoted wife Amie of 24 years, who was also his best friend. From coffee runs to travel buddies, they did it all and enjoyed being with each other. Jon always thought about his wife and family before himself. He put them first with everything, spoiling them with things, but also always with love. He loves babies and kids from the time he was little. He loved his son and daughter beyond words, and taught them so much. Learning math for school, driving a standard or a dirt bike, changing a tire, shooting guns, you name it, he taught them it. Jon had a great judge of character. He was extremely intelligent and wise, and that's an understatement. He was hardworking, and when he put his mind to something, he did it. He believed that if you did a job, you do it right the first time or don't do it at all.  He could be taught something new for the first time, and then end up doing it better than the person who taught him. People called him for advice and how to fix things, because they all believed for a fact, he knew what he was talking about.

Jon loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending time hunting, snowmobiling, and riding on his ATV. From the time he was a kid, he loved trucks with big tires. He collected guns, and was a wicked shot, even fixed and did some guns over. He had a boy inside him who loved his RC trucks and boats, and anything that was a toy that antique. He loved animals, especially his dog Ceaser and cat Sproket dearly, and they loved him. He loved his tractors and all machinery. He built many trailers and every one kept getting bigger. There is nothing he couldn't do.
Jon leaves behind a very large hole in many hearts, that will never be filled. We keep our memories very close to help heal our heart a little.

Jon is survived by his parents Derek and Christine Gray, Westville; wife Amie (Snell), Durham; son Reilly Gray (Celine Mason), New Glasgow, and daughter Keely Gray (Zane Jordan), Timberlea; sister Jayne (Anthony) Fraser, Westville; niece Jade Fraser; half-sisters Julie Gray, England, and Allison (Nick) Hill, Scotland; half-brother Trevor Knight, Springdale, NFLD; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and close family and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother David Gray; maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home Thursday, September 11, from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 12, at 11am from the Eagles Funeral Home Chapel.
