Obituary of Mary Jeanette Fraser
Mary Jeanette (Kennedy) Fraser, age 66, of Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow with family at her side. She was born October 15, 1958 in Westville, Pictou County, the youngest daughter of the late Daniel and Irene (MacNaughton) Kennedy. Mary was a devoted wife to the late Elwood Fraser, a wonderful mother to Christopher and his wife Samantha, and a loving grandmother to her beautiful grandchildren Nolan and Mason, whom she loved dearly.
Mary was a graduate student of Westville High School in 1977, where she was student council secretary for her graduating year, and took a one year bookkeeping course at the Stellarton Vocational School. After graduation she worked in the office for Hawker Siddeley Steel Company in Trenton, NS. Not long after her marriage she owned and operated the Westville #1 Video Store. Mary was involved with the Pictou County Horse Club, which included many communities across Nova Scotia. She was also involved with the North Colchester Exhibition in Pictou County, NS.
Mary and Elwood were known for their love of horses, Clydesdales, Belgians and Percherons. She loved providing sleigh rides in the winter, and in the summer, the weddings, and the trip to Tim Hortons with her husband and sisters, “the Kennedy girls”. Mary loved a gathering, whether it was a good game of cards, or the Wednesday evening meeting of the “Fatty Club”.
Mary is survived by her son Chris and daughter-in-law Samantha, her two grandsons, Nolan and Mason (who will miss going to Grandma’s for snacks); brother Bill Kennedy (Colleen) of Burton, NB; sisters: Colleen Zdan (Bruce) of Duncan, BC, Cathy White (John) of Sussex, NB; brothers-in-law: David Cormier of Westville, NS, Leonard Fraser (Donna), Allan Fraser (Mary); sisters-in-law: Bev Clark (David), Iva Campbell (Keith), Dale Hislop (Donnie), Velda Fulmore (David) and Helen O’Connor (Chuck), along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Elwood in 2023; brothers: James Daniel Kennedy and John Vernon Kennedy; sisters Martha Jean Fraser, June Elizabeth Ann Cormier, and two infant sisters; brothers-in-law: Charlie Fraser, David Zdan, sister-in-law Faye Kennedy; her father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Evelyn Fraser and brother-in-law Bill Roddick.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 26 at 11:00am from the Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. The private interment will take place at a later date.
