Obituary of Rose Marie Fraser

The family of Rose Marie Fraser (nee Haines) would like to announce her passing on September 25, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by family.

Rose was born May 30, 1952, in Sydney, to Rose Haines (Mackenzie) and William Haines. She attended Holy Angels and Sydney Academy until moving to Westville, NS. She graduated from Westville High School in 1972 and soon after started working at Maritime Telephone and Telegraph (later reamed Bell Aliant). She returned to Sydney to work in 1990.

Rose/Mom was active in sports – from Volleyball in high school, to league bowling with MT& T. She played on the New Glasgow women’s champion winning baseball team, “The Flyerettes”, in the early 1980’s. She was an exceptional card player; at home; at card parties, with friends in Westville and Sydney; and with her Tarabish family at Club 55 and the Steelworkers Hall. No one could “count cards" like” mom. In her lifetime she travelled to Calgary, Scotland, Las Vegas, Punta Canta and Dominican Republic with her family and good friends.

She had an illustrious 30-year career with MT & T holding positions as an operator, facilities and maintenance technician. Shes was one of the first female cable splicers in Nova Scotia.

She was intelligent, witty –always having a quick comeback, was fun-loving but tough-at 5 ft 10 inches- she stood up literally and figuratively for herself, her family or for the underdog.

She is survived by : her loving spouse of 44 years, Ronnie Clyburn; twins Robin (Jody) and Robert (Erin); stepchildren: Ronnie (Tracey), Vanessa (Adalai- passed), Dora, Jennifer; sister Kathleen Couture, (John); several nieces and nephews, sister and brothersin-laws and almost 50 grandchildren/great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by parents, Rose and Bill, stepdaughter Darlene, parents –inlaws- Douglas and Anita, sisters and brother in law-Doug, Laura and Margie, grandson, Jeremey and Allister Fraser – father to Robert and Robin.

Special thanks to Dr. John Archibald, Dr. Alana Sorez, as well as the staff at the CBRH for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place at her request, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to your local SPCA.

Mom-when you see Nan and Pop, you can tell them, “The one in the middle is cute".
