Obituary of Simon Adriann de Best

Simon Adriaan de Best of Westville passed away Monday November 10, 2025. Born in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, February 1, 1947, the son of Adriaan de Best and Trijnie Koopman.

He was a member of the Westville Curling Club and Archery Canada.

Simon joined Northumberland Strait Shooters Archery club in 2012 and was an executive member for many years. He participated as an active member and assisted with setting up and training.  He took BAI course and led many archers in the Beginning Archeryduring instructional weeks offered by the club over many years.  He enjoyed setting up the 3D courses, especially at the Thorburn site, leading many group shoots there on summer evenings.  Simon also worked with the club's Para Archery Program.

Simon immigrated to Canada in 2008 and one of his proudest moments was receiving his Canadian citizenship. He loved his adoped country except for the mosquitos and ticks.

He worked for many years as a crane operator moving vats of molten metal across ceilings at Koninklijke Hoogovens.

A fan of Formula1 and always cheering for the Dutch man Max Verstappan and a fan of motorcycle races, he never moved from the screen until all results were shown.

He leaves behind his wife  Rosemary, his daughter Tessa her husband Michel, grandchildren Amy and Iwan Obdam, his sister Anniette, her husband Peter Kriusman, their daughters Linda, Marit, Astrid their husbands and children, brother in law and friend Gary Wood , stepson Richard Levy and stepgrandson Justin Levy.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by this first wife Briget Peerdeman, brother Ko and half siblings, Nel, Jan, Tinie and Rie.

As per Simon's last request there will be no funeral or visitation -he said people could remember him without a lot of fuss and bother - that's my man.  I keep looking for you.
