Obituary of Donald William Calder

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Calder (age 73) announce his passing after a brief battle with cancer. Donald was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Williamson), and a proud father to his two sons, Dwayne (Amanda) and Adam (Jodi Boutilier). He will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren Katelyn, Cameron, Natalie, Caleb, Lani, and Mia, who brought him endless pride and joy.

Survived by two sisters Jean Landry and Norma (Cecil) Skinner, three brothers Jackie (Angela), Ross (Marion) and Robert (Connie) and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents William and Mabel, sister Carol, brother-in-law Everett Landry and niece Nyree and nephew Corey.

Donald was a man who loved life’s simple pleasures. A lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, he rarely missed a game. He found peace and purpose in his garden, enjoyed friendly competition at the dart board and spending time with his family where many memories were made. He proudly served as President of Westville Legion Branch #35 for many years. His leadership, kindness, and dedication made a lasting impact on his community.  His pride and joy was teaching and supporting Pictou County Youth Darts over the last 10 years.

Donald took great pride in his work during his 41 incredible years employed with Michelin Tire, where he formed lastingfriendships. Beyond his work, he was always the first to lend a hand and the last to ask for anything in return.

He will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, and unwavering love for family and friends. His legacy of generosity and community spirit will live on in all who knew him.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow for their exceptional care and compassion.  In Donalds words “everything is great” during his stay there.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Eagles Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 19th from the Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. A reception to follow at Westville Legion Branch #35, all are welcome.

Donations can be made to Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit, Westville Legion Branch #35 or Pictou County Youth Darts.  Family Flowers only please.
