Obituary of Mary Veronica Beaton
Born in Inverness, N.S. on May 20, 1956 and passed November 24, 2025. She lived for the past 20 years with her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Hugh Palmer, in Westville.
She had, for a great number of years, been attending Summer Street Industries and there she met and formed many friendships. As those who knew Mary could attest, she lovingly cared for her 'babies' and the many family gatherings in Mabou Coal Mines.
She was the beloved daughter of the late John D. and Veronica (MacNeil) Beaton.
She is also predeceased by her eldest brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Brenda Beaton and her niece Lesley Roddick.
She is survived by her sister, Anne (Hugh) Palmer, brother Sandy (Carol) Beaton and brother Finlay (Judy) Beaton. Also left to morn are her several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. None were more special that her great niece Mira Palmer whom she shared snack, toys and cartoons.
She had a special bond with her sitter, Mary Turner who read many stories, always prepared a lovely lunch and taught Mary to "Clean Up". She loved going to Church and singing with the choir, once she even told Father Boudreau to "Hurry Up" and he replied "I going as fast as I can Mary"! Our dad often mentioned that Mom was as stubborn as the MacNeils', this was a family trait Mary shared right to the end.
We, the family, are eternally grateful for the care given to her by the Palliative Care team at the Aberdeen Hospital lead by Rachel and the VON staff who treated her with the utmost respect and dignity.
Although she did not have a vast vocabulary, she made known her thoughts and wishes telling her visitors she wanted to "Go Home".
Well Mary, you finally got your wish to finally "Go Home"!
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Westville on Tuesday, December 2 at 11am, with burial to follow.
Donations can be made to Summer Street Industries or the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
