Obituary of John Bertram Leonard Robinson

John Bertram Leonard Robinson, (aged 78), Ph.D., P. Eng., born in Montreal, died peacefully at home in Green Hill, on December 7th, 2025.  He was surrounded by family and love.

John was a brilliant, multi-talented man who enjoyed his family, work, travel, and music. He was perfectly bilingual in English and French.  He was awarded his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.  John’s career spanned over 50 years in transportation safety and design.  John prided himself on being one of Canada’s leading traffic and road safety engineers.  He began his career working for the City of Ottawa and at various times worked as a university professor (at three universities), worked for private industry, and owned his own consulting firms. His professional expertise took him around the globe. He once told his daughter that the reason he became a civil engineer was because it was the closest career he could have to working with cars that did not involve being a mechanic.

John always had a sense of adventure.  He loved cars and motorcycles, most recently racing cars in the Targa Newfoundland. He was a Harley Davidson guy.  You could always count on John to offer an amusing story, pun, or joke no matter what the situation.  You could also count on him to eat whatever chocolate was to be found nearby.  He was a talented musician, most notably for playing the piano.  He could play almost anything by ear after just hearing it a single time. John valued his faith and attended church regularly.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Ina Levo, to whom he was married for six happy and fulfilling years. Together they valued contentment and as many moments of joy as they could create. He is survived by his two children, his daughter Jennifer Robinson (husband, Matthew Crome), son Andrew Robinson (wife, Alizeh Hussain Robinson), and grandson Jared Crome.   He is also survived by his two loving sisters-in-law, Wendy Levo and Anne Levo Harrop.  He was predeceased by his sister Wendy (Robinson) Beggs and is survived by her two children Mary Lou Batty and John Llambias.

A visitation for John will be held at the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, NS on December 20, from 2 pm through 5 pm.  A Celebration of Life for John will be held at Green Hill – Alma United Church, Alma, NS on Sunday December 21st at 2:30 pm.

The family would especially like to thank all the people whose compassionate care for John allowed him to remain at home, including personal caregivers Clare, Monica, and Naomi, and especially the VON. In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of John may be made to the VON Pictou County or Green Hill – Alma United Church.

… Above all enjoy the ride.
