Obituary of John Douglas Cyr

John Douglas Cyr was born in Westville, Nova Scotia on March 10, 1934 to the late John and Augustena (“Tena”) Cyr. He passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow
Doug served in the Canadian Air Force for five years, an experience that shaped his strength and discipline. After completing his service, Doug thrived as a car salesman and later as the manager of the Heather Hotel, where his warm personality and steady leadership left a lasting impression on many. He then moved on to Michelin, where he worked as a stationary engineer for over 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Dougie loved a sale. In retirement, he spent his time studying the Canadian Tire flyer and buying anything that was a good deal - even if it meant having two. He figured there would always be somebody who would need it.
Doug was deeply engaged with the world around him. He followed global news with great interest and never shied away from a lively political debate. Whether discussing current events or exchanging ideas with friends and family, he approached every conversation with passion and insight - whether they liked it or not.
Doug found peace in life’s simple moments. He enjoyed his time in Caledonia at his camp where he was always trying to fix it up. Whether fishing, hunting, or simply sitting by the water, he was happiest outdoors in the sunshine, surrounded by nature.
Throughout his life, Doug showed quiet resilience. He faced every challenge with mental strength and courage. Whether he was fixing something around the house, facing personal challenges or navigating life’s unexpected turns, he was never one to back down.

Doug is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sons Dougie (Kim) and Josh (Lacey), his sisters Mildred Power, Karen Cormier(Harvey), Sheila MacLaren, brother Ralph ; his grandchildren Jeff, Julie, Daniel, Devin (Sheehan), Colin, Gena, (Cyr),Taylor, Gavin, and Charlotte (Cyr) along with his 4 great grandchildren. He held each of them close to his heart. His special bond with his granddaughter Taylor, with whom he shared a close and meaningful connection, brought him immense joy throughout his later years.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Linda Sheehan (Keith MacDonald); his brother Richard Cyr (Bernice); his sister Catherine Hendsbee (Aullie); his infant sister Nancy Cyr, brother in law, William Power and sister in law, Molly Cyr.
Doug will be remembered for his fish chowder, his generosity and the love he carried for his family.

The family will receive visitors from 7-9 P.M. Friday December 12, 2025, in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Graveside Burial to be held in the spring.
