Obituary of George Daniel Fraser
It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of George Daniel Fraser, 79, of Westville. Dan passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 21, 2025 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou, Dan was the son of George F. and Agnes (MacKenzie) Fraser and spent most of his younger years in Salem, Pictou County.
Dan was a proud member of Millwright Local #1178 and in 2024 was especially happy to receive a gift and Certificate of Appreciation for his 57 years of Faithful Membership to the Local. Before retirement in 2007, his work in construction and maintenance brought him to various areas of Nova Scotia and other parts of the country from Newfoundland to Saskatchewan.
Dan was a quiet man of many talents who could build or fix almost anything (a skill he passed on to his son) including doing major renovations both inside and outside of our home. He enjoyed time spent working in his garage, tending his vegetable garden, mowing his lawn in summer and snow blowing in winter, keeping his ‘89 Chevy truck running, watching NHL games on TV and most of all, spending time with his family.
Dan is loved and survived by his wife of 58 years Joyce (Chennell), daughter Kim (Jon Fargo) Ajax, Ontario, son Paul (Krista) Westville and daughter Tara (Jacob Harris) Castle Pines, Colorado and precious grandchildren he loved dearly Carter and Madeleine Fargo, Brier Fraser, and Sophie and Charlotte Harris, his sister Helen MacKenzie and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by brother Hugh, beloved nephew Jay Fraser, father and mother-in-law John and Rose Chennell, sisters-in-law Marilyn Osmond and Faye Fraser and brothers-in-law Gordon “Tap” MacKenzie and Luc Harvey.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. In honour of his wishes a scattering of his ashes will take place in early summer.
Donations in his memory may be made to Diabetes Canada, Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care, Lewy Body Dementia Association or a charity of your choice.
