Obituary of Robert Charles "Bob" Betts
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Robert (Bob) Charles Betts of Westville, NS, at the Aberdeen Hospital, January 3, 2026 following a brief illness.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 60 years Laureen (nee Graham), two sons, Shaun (Jeanette Lawlor) of St. John’s, Graham (Dawn Chapman) of Westville, and two cherished grandsons, Rogan and Aidan, as well as many extended family members and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary (Tate), brother, Hugh and sister, Dianne (Shakeness).
Bob was born on January 31,1943 and grew up on Westville Road. As a young man, he was known to cut a rug at the local dance hall, where he would eventually meet and charm, his lifelong love, Laureen. Bob tried on several jobs for size, but finally settled on a stationary engineer at Scott Paper. Later in life, he found his true calling as a woodworker. Many of his pieces are treasures that can be found in his family‘s homes. Bob loved spending time with his family which included many family trips as well as skiing, golfing and fishing. He enjoyed playing in the gentleman‘s hockey league for many years, and was also known to bluff a few hands in a good poker game. His pride and joy were his two grandsons. Nothing made him prouder than watching them pursue their varied interests. They will certainly miss their number one fan!
A visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville on Monday, January 12th from 1pm-2pm with a service and reception to follow. For those who would like to make a donation in Bob’s name, please consider your local food bank.
