Obituary of James William Russell

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of James (Jim) William Russell, 85, of Mount William on January 20^th, 2026, surrounded by his family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Jim was born at the Old Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow to William (Bill) and Mae (MacKinnon) Russell on June 8^th, 1940. He was raised by his grandparents Seymour and Sarah MacKinnon, Westville. 

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years (January 20^th), Helen (Howard) Mount William, daughter Darlene (James) Bates, Durham, sons Kevin (Darlene), Mount Thom, and Stephen (Crystal), Westville. He is also survived by grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Kyle, Brianna, Bradley, and Megan, great-grandchildren Freya, Jaxon, Gabriella, Margo, Carson and Peyton, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his sisters Sally Emery, Betty Wood, brothers Angus and Clarrie Russell.

Dad had a very strong work ethic which he instilled in his children. He worked at Trenton Works, Trenton for forty-five years.  He liked listening to country music, loved animals of any kind four legged or two. He took great care of his yard and garden.  And enjoyed time spent at the wood lot in Mount Thom. 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00, on Saturday, January 24^th at Eagles Funeral Home, with service to follow.  Spring burial will take place at Stillman Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA or charity of your choice.  Family flowers only.
