Obituary of Violet Ann MacDonald

Violet MacDonald (Wood) passed away peacefully February 16th, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Daughter of the late Elizabeth Wood, born January 23rd, 1945. Brought up in Mt. Thom, a place she held near and dear to her heart. Always sharing fond memories of the Cove Road.

Later, she settled in Eureka, where she raised six children. Danny, Eva, David, Kathy, Brenda, and Mack. She was known by the village kids as “Mama Vi”. Violet spent her years baking, starting at the homestretch, Skokes and a short time at more than a bakery, continuing to bake for her family and friends.

While carrying the sorrow of the loss of her first-born Danny, her family brought her deep pride and joy. With 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and happily awaiting the arrival of great grandchildren, number 12.
Violet was Nan to many chosen grandchildren, far too many to mention. Sharing many memories over the last 4 years being included in whatever fun Monica and the girls were up to.

She is survived by 5 children, Eva Stewart (Doug) Westville, David Rogers (Susan) Plymouth, Kathy Rogers (Robert) Forbroke, Brenda Rogers (Brian) Springville, Mack Rogers (Helina) Westville. 9 grandchildren, Monica McDonald (Mathew), Shawna Locke (Dylan), Robert Mackay (Coady), Derrick Anderson (Sam), Damon Anderson, Caitlin Rogers (Harrison), Morgan Mackay (Brea), Frankie Rogers, and Devin Rogers. 11 great grandchildren, Keegan, Kacey, Amayla, Castyn, Lilly, Spencer, Caraira, Allie, Thalia, Aria and Eli. Sister Brenda Rhyno (Robert) New Brunswick, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Wood, Brother Malchom Wood, Sister Nellie Wood, Oldest son Danny Rogers, Grandson Zachary Anderson, and great granddaughter Amara Anderson.

Violet leaves behind her beloved kitty Angus, an inseparable pair.

Visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville on Thursday, February 19, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, from Eagles Funeral Chapel at 2pm with Rev. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow the service.

When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.

Nan, I love you, forever and always –Monica
