Obituary of Jean Claire Horne
Jean Claire Horne
August 18th 1932 – April 9th 2026
It is with deep sadness and gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Jean Claire Horne, who passed away on April 9th 2026 at the age of 93, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a brief illness.
Born on August 18th 1932 in Westville, Jean was the beloved daughter of Willard and Margaret Cameron. She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College and taught school in Glengarry and Plymouth. Jean also worked for Maritime Tel & Tel and NS Light & Power. She was co-owner of Horne’s grocery with her husband Gerald and assisted with rural mail delivery for 17 years.
She was a devoted member of St. Columba United Church in Hopewell active as an elder and choir member. Jean also dedicated much of her time to the residents of Valley View Villa where she worked and volunteered for many years. Those who knew Jean will remember her kind soul and her warm vibrant laugh.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 72 years, Gerald Horne; her grandchildren, Jillian Horne (David Bowman) and Julie Schnellsrieder (Marco); her sisters-in-law, Judy Waller (David) and Shirley Cameron (late Willard); and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sons, Robert, John and Brent; her parents, Willard and Margaret Cameron; and her siblings, Lois Lynds (Wilbert), Gordon Cameron (Jean), Donald Cameron (Mae), Willard Cameron and James Cameron (Delia).
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville on Tuesday April 14th from 1-3 pm. Funeral service will take place at the St Columba United Church on Wednesday on April 15th at 11 am, followed by a burial at the Lorne Cemetery and a reception at the Lorne Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley View Villa in her memory.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the incredibly caring staff at the Valley View Villa, and staff of the Aberdeen Hospital for their care and support.
