This saddens me deeply to read of Gary’s passing. I have worked with Gary dozens and dozens of times over the past two decades in his role with the Health Association. Every interaction was a joy! We shared a love of music and shared stories of our guitar playing on stage. I was able to secure tickets to April Wines final concert in Truro a few years ago and invited Gary to come with me. Our sons accompanied us… what a magical night it was. Great memory!!
I am so sorry to Gary’s family for this significant loss. He was truly one of a kind. He will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to Gary's family. We worked together for many years when bargaining for Evergreen Home for Special Care. He was always aware bargaining should be based on mutual respect. We, along with Yoda, shared social time during lunch breaks, usually at a Cafe. Gary was a solid person.

Sincere condolences to Gary's family on his passing. I worked with Gary for several years when we were lucky to have him as our labour lawyer through HANS. I will always remember his warm personality, ability to see the big picture, wise council and of course his detailed answers when answering a question. His memory for detail was unmatched as he told stories with a twinkle in his eye! I always enjoyed working with Gary, he was a great person and I was very sorry to hear of his passing.

Rankin Family,
I wish to extend my kindest regards to you as you address the loss of a father, husband and friend. My memories of Gary go back to our catechism classes held at the Church of the Holy Name , to our junior high and senior classes, and our time at St Francis Xavier with Joey Beaton, Michael MacDonald and David Eagles. It is certainly sad to see so many 1973 classmates passing on. Gary was indeed our academic leader and the wittiest dude . Classmates believed he was gifted with a photo graphic memory.
Gary , if you are reading your messages I thank you again for getting me through grade 11 and 12 mathematic courses.
Best wishes and with respect,
Terry Doucette

Sending deepest condolences to Kathleen, Patrick and families on Gary's passing. Knew Gary pretty well all my life as we were in school together and graduated as members of the class of '73. He was always at the top of our class and he was the one who would have the right answer if nobody else did!!
Always a friendly word and chuckle anytime we would run into each other at the grocery store.
He will be missed....RIP GRR!

I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Gary’s family.I got to know Gary when he began practicing law in Pictou County and ever since , as a fellow lawyer , but also as a great friend and colleague. I also knew Gary from his many years as a lector at Holy Name and St John’s . We shared many a good story and legal discussions down the years and I respected his quick wit and intelligence He was obviously well read and was possessed of a wonderful sense of humour and no discussion got very far without a laugh . Gary represented his clients as a lawyer diligently and was a valued administrator in his Municipal roles.
I will miss you my good friend .
God speed to you pal.

My deepest condolences to Patrick and Kathleen.
It was an absolute honour to work with Gary. He truly was a master of his craft and to see him in full ‘Lawyer Mode’ was inspiring. His depth of knowledge was incredible, his storytelling legendary and Yoda became the unofficial Northwood Labour Relations mascot. There are so many words, but quite simply, Thank You! For your wisdom, your guidance, your knowledge and your friendship. You will be greatly missed. Rest easy Sir.

It was a shocked to hear of Gary’s passing. What I really remember of Gary was his wit plus that certain type of humour that made him stand out from the crowd and not to forget was the twinkle in his eye. For those who knew him … you will completely understand! He was a very smart man but never flaunted his brilliance, he was just part of the gang from the WHS Class of 73. My condolences to his children and family. He will be missed.

To Gary’s children Kathleen & Patrick and extended family we extend our sincere caring & compassion to you for your sudden loss; in hearing the news of his passing we were very saddened and shocked as he was just on the alter Easter Sunday like so many times before contributing to his faith & church.
I grew up & went all through school with Gary & considered him a close friend and fine man, always humble, calming, and kind. Gary & I have shared many a conversation & gatherings throughout the years that will forever be remembered with fondness of a genuine friend, especially Westville Class of 73; he will be greatly missed as a friend, community & church participant in so many capacities. Shocked to read of Gary's passing. He had such a manner that could put you at ease. Remember his hard work with Westville Mayor Mary Daley on the Westray Fund. He made many great contributions to the community at large over the years. Enjoyed our conversations about the state of affairs in Pictou County, and of course, our beloved Chicago Blackhawks!. Sincere sympathy to his family. God Bless. Kevin Reid

Gary was such an incredible friend. His sense of humour, wit and intelligence drew eveyone close. He treated everyone like they were his best friend. HIs remarkable presence made him the "go-to" person when planning a party or a trip. The destination and purpose of the trip was not the goal - it was the companionship. At a party or gathering, the lights did not go out until Gary left. He was not the life of the party...he was the party. We will plan another trip to the Forum to watch the Blackhawks play the Canadiens, and we will save a seat for you.
