Obituary of John Hector MacKenzie

“That’s where I’m gonna go when I die”

spirit in the sky

John Hector MacKenzie, proudly known as “Pupa” passed away peacefully at home with his son and daughter-in-law at his side, July 21st, 2026.

John Hector was the son of the late John Hector MacKenzie Sr. and Catherine Hazel “Kay” (Silver) MacKenzie.

John Hector took his first job as a glass cutter at Grant’s Glass, and was later employed with Pictou County Glass for 30 years. He was a beloved father, grandfather, colleague, and friend to so many. He could always be found puttering around, fixing things for others, making Tim Horton’s runs for his family, watching movies in his favourite chair, driving around in the truck he fondly called the beast, and helping everyone in town who locked themselves out of their homes.

He will be sadly missed by his sons John Langille (Stacy) and Robert Langille (Alanna), 5 grandchildren Elizabeth Imlay (Frederick), Donald Imlay (Ashley), Jennifer Imlay (Sean), Cory Langille (Amanda) and Leigh-Ann Langille (Cory); 10 great grandchildren; siblings Gerald MacKenzie, Wilfred (Fred) MacKenzie, Marjorie MacKenzie, Lloyd MacKenzie (Cheryle), Arthur (Art) MacKenzie, William (Bill) MacKenzie (Michelle), Audrey Ivey (Owen), Henry MacKenzie, Lori MacKenzie (George), and his special sister (in-law) Kathryn Daley (Bob), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Besides his parents, John Hector was predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” (MacIntosh) Mackenzie, daughter Betty Imlay, son-in-law Joe Imlay; sisters Myrna Carriere, Kathy MacKenzie-McKenna; sister-in-laws Marjorie Lynn MacKenzie, and Debbie MacKenzie; brothers-in-law Rick Carriere, and Bob Coulson.

In addition he is survived by his aunt Joan Ferguson in Nova Scotia.

At John Hector’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a late date. All friends and family will be welcome.
