Obituary of James Emery Hayes

James Emery Hayes “Jim”  (age 81) of Stellarton passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2026, in the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, in 1945 to James and Gladys (Emery) Hayes. Jim was in his when he met the love of his life and best friend, Helen. They were married on August 5, 1967, and together shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving home and had three children.

Jim dedicated 35 years of service to the Department of Mines and Energy. He was a member of the Sharon St John United Church since 1978, where he practiced his faith dearly. Jim was also a member of the Keith Masonic Lodge #23. During his younger years, he played rugby and hockey in high school and maintained a lifelong love of sports. He especially enjoyed camping with his family at Seafoam, where many cherished memories were made.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Jim found great joy in spending time with his family. He was a proud supporter of his son, always enjoying the opportunity to watch him play hockey and traveling to cheer on his son. He loved listening to his granddaughter sing and treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. Jim also proudly participated each year in the Walk the Walk for Autism in support of his grandson, a cause that was close to his heart.

He is survived by his son, Harlin of Middle Sackville; former daughter-in-law, Alicia Tupper of Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn of Stellarton, Matthew of Lower Sackville, and Kristian of Westville; sister, Jean (Howie) Sampson of Stellarton; sisters-in-law, Viola Price and Elizabeth Baillie; many relatives; and lifelong friend, Harlin Price. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen Grace Hayes; daughters, Heidi Lynn Hayes and Nancy Lee Hayes; and sisters, Enda Dunbar and Margaret Dooley.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 on Friday, August 7th, 2026, in the Eagles Funeral Home in Westville.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8th, 2026 at 11am from the Eagles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jun-Hyok Chon officiating.
