Obituary of Emma Bourque

Emma Marie (Vigneault) Bourque, 92, Westville passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at home. Born on July 25, 1916, in Amerst, Ile de Madeline, Quebec, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Sophie (Boudreau) Vigneault. She moved to Pictou with her parents at an early age, then moving to Westville with her husband Fred in 1938, where they raised eleven children. Emma was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, know to all as "Nanny Bourque". She was famous for her hand made socks and mitts, biscuits, and meat pies. She will be sadly missed by sons, James (Belle); Johnny (Marie); Tommy (Donna), all of Westville; daughters, June, with whom she resided; Theresa Darroch (Kevin), Marshdale; Jeanie Stewart (Edison), Westville; 37 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren; sisters, Rose Chennell (John), Westville; Theresa Vigneault, Pictou; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred; sons, Michael, Bernie, Fred, and Joe; daughter Patsy, daughter in law Pat; grandson Andrew Bourque; brothers Thomas and Alphonse; and sisters, Tina, Louise, Oxille, and Mary; foster brother Leonard Gaudet; and nephew Joseph Poirer. Visitations will be held 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Friday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral; service will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday from the Church of The Holy Name, Westville. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. The Holy Name C.W.L. will recite prayers at 4 o’clock Friday at the Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the I.W.K. or the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation.
