Obituary of James Hermanson

It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Hermanson announces his passing at the Palliative Care Unit in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, after a short, valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Geraldton, ON, September 8,1940 and raised in Sudbury, a son of the late Armas Adolph and Ilah Mae (Gambee) Hermanson. Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Jeanette (MacDonald) Hermanson, Little Harbour, NS, beloved sons, David (Denise) Hermanson, Halifax, NS, John Hermanson, Vancouver, BC, Daniel Hermanson, Little Harbour, NS, his treasured grandchildren Joshua and Danika. Jim loved his family and friends dearly. He is survived by sister Leora Abernethy and sisters\brothers-in-law: Catherine Boswell, Hugh (Carol) MacDonald, Anna Yuill (Roy Baigent), Margaret (Everil) Patton, Josie (Gilbert) Green, Daniel MacDonald (Joan Marie Bourque), Frank (Connie) MacDonald, Gerard MacDonald, Kevin (Joanne) MacDonald, Verna MacDonald (Tom Mahaffey), many nieces and nephews and his Green Thumb Family of staff and supporters. He was predeceased by mother and father-in-law, Joe and Mae MacDonald, brothers-in-law: Mickey Walsh, David Abernethy, Alan Boswell and nephew, Evan MacDonald. Jim was employed with Goodyear Canada for 25 years as well as with the Maple Leaf Gardens. With his wife, Jeanette, they were the proud owners of The Green Thumb Farmers Market in Greenhill, NS for the past 21 years. Jim was an avid sports fan, loyal to his Toronto Maple Leafs and Weeks Jr ”A” Crushers. He was a great supporter of many community causes. A recreational hunter, Jim enjoyed his annual hunting trips with friends and relatives. He enjoyed the simple things in life. To Jim, priorities were family, friends and life in his adopted home of Pictou County. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Caring, loving, loyal, generous and direct are just a few of the words to describe this remarkable man who will live on forever in our hearts and in rich memories. The family wishes to recognize the extraordinary care and attention provided by Dr. Ania Kwasnik-Krawczyk, Dr. John Krawczyk, Dr. Gerry Farrell and all the special palliative care nurses who were like angels, in time of need. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society-Nova Scotia Division, would be greatly appreciated. Family will receive friends at Eagles Funeral Home, North Main Street, Westville, NS on Saturday, Oct.17th, 7-9pm; Sunday, Oct 18th, 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Name Catholic Church on Monday, Oct.19th at 1pm with Rev. C. Donald Boudreau officiating. Internment will be in the Parish Cemetery.
