Obituary of Joseph Stewart

It is with great sadness that we, the family of John Joseph Stewart “Joe”, announce his passing on the early evening of November 1st, 2023.  He was surrounded by his loving family, like he always was.  He left this world to be reunited with his Heavenly Family, including his beloved daughter Tanya.

Joe was all about family, he adored each and everyone.  He was giving and caring and always helped anyone in need.  He loved sitting in the rain and was an excellent pool player in his younger years.  He loved singing, you could often hear him before you reached the door.  He loved the classics but could also turn the simplest everyday phrases into a song.  His love for music was infectious.   Joe was a hard worker, owning and operating C&S Scrap Metal and Bottle Exchange for many years in New Glasgow.  Joe was happiest spending time with his family, especially his 8 grandchildren he cherished so much and was so proud of.

Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years Sharon Stewart (Green); his daughters Tasha Short (Scott); Tammy Stewart; son-in-law Mike Rector; also grieving their beloved Papa is Shalynn, Leeah, Gracie, Austin, Abel, Sylvia, Ella and Tanner.  They will forever miss him.

He also leaves behind his siblings Wendy Stewart, Stephen Stewart, Gary Stewart, Nancy Rushton (Roddie), Robert Stewart (Adele), Chris Stewart; mother-in-law Sylvia Green; sisters and brothers-in-law Charmaine Van Den Eyden (Anthony); Kathy Reid; Richard Green (Sheila); Sandra O’Brien (Colin) and Kevin Green (Sara);   numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He loved you all.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Catherine Stewart; daughter Tanya Lee Rector; brother John Stewart; paternal grandparents Jean and Don Stewart; maternal grandparents William and Minnie Mintern; and father-in-law Howard Green and brother-in-law Robert Reid.

Visitation for family and close friends will be held from 4:30- 6:30 Sunday, Nov. 5 at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A public funeral service will be held on 11 a.m.  Monday, Nov. 6,  at Bethel Baptist Church, Westville with Pastor Robert Riggs officiating.  Burial will be at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
