Dawnita Butler

Obituary of Dawnita Butler

It is with great sadness, we announce, Dawnita -age 44 lost her lengthy battle with cancer on Jan 4, 2024.

Dawnita was born in Ontario, where she still has family and friends who she loved dearly. Nova Scotia became home to her after moving here with her family in 1991.

Dawnita attetnded and Graduated from West Pictou High School in 1997. She continued her education both in Ontario and Nova Scotia, attending a fine arts program at Fanshaw College in London Ont and then began her B.A. at St. FX . Her love of books, research and education led her to a career at the ST FX Library, where she loved assisting "her Students" with their research needs and has maintained those relationships to this day. Upon returning to New Glasgow area she worked as an Assistant to Dr Wahab at the Aberdeen Hospital. During her time at Health Authority she developed many meaningful relationships.  In 2020 Dawnita returned to  her roots as a Library Technician and became a member of the Stellarton NSCC Library where she remained until her death.

Dawnita was a gentle quiet girl with a great sense of humour and the best laugh ever.   She loved to fill other people's cup, and so she developed many deep and lasting connections. Her kindness went so far beyond just being nice, it genuinely made her happy to make others feel good. She could often be found reading a book with her three fur babies nearby, baking cookies for Mike or trying out a new recipe to share. Dawnita found joy in just being, she loved the life she lived.

Dawnita leaves behind her parents, Lori and Allan Best, brother Christopher (Callie), her chosen sister Amanda (Mark), her chosen brothers, Michael, Harlan (Robyn) and Robbie, also her niece Macey (Alberta).  Dawnita was broken-hearted to have to leave her partner Mike Cox, who she called her soul-mate and best friend, who made her laugh, who she loved to do "just nothing with" along with Mike's Mom Jean and his sister Carolyn.

Dawnita will be forever missed by her  family and all who knew and loved her here in Nova Scotia as well as Ontario and Alberta and Wyoming.  Dawnita held a special place in her heart for "her girls" Kylea, Becca, Nicolle, and Payton,

Dawnita was predeceased by her father  Wayne, her Nanny Blanch, grandfather Doug, Grampie and Nanny Syl, her Nanny Best and most recently "Nan".

We will miss her smile.

Special thank you to Dr Craig, Dr Smith, and "her girls" in the Chemo Lab.
