Obituary of Harold Arlington Snelgrove

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harold Arlington Snelgrove of Mount William, age 82. He passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, surrounded by his family, on Friday, January 19, 2018.

Born in Halifax, on October 28, 1935, he was a son of the late Charles and Velma(Judge) Snelgrove.

He is survived by his four children, Christel Fleet (John) of Moser River, Heidi Watling (Jamie) of Quispamsis, NB, Caterina Kmill (Donald) of Thunder Bay, ON, and Thomas Snelgrove (Kimberley) of Enfield, NS. He is also survived by ten loving grandchildren, Roxanna and Jesse Fleet, Jeremy (Lacey), Riley (Andrea) and Darby Watling, Mark, Benjamin Kmill and Stacey Hutton(Carter) and Gregory and Jenna Sneglrove; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Marshall of Winnipeg; brother, Edward Snelgrove (Beverly) of Dartmouth, NS.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Elfriede (Stoll).

He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 27 years, stationed in several locations including 2 postings in Germany where he met his wife of 56 years. Harold was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #34 and the Royal Canadian Air Force Association. He was a member of St. Bees Anglican Church, Westville. After retiring from military service, he worked for the school board as a bus driver, enjoying the many children every morning.

His family expresses their sincere appreciation to the Palliative Care staff for their exceptional care and compassion and a special thanks to Dr. Farrell and Dr. Soliman.

Arrangements are entrusted to Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visitation on Monday from 7-9 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. His funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville. Interment will be held at a later date at Mount William Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson Society Canada, the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
