I am so sorry to hear of Hughie’s passing. He was a great guy, worked beside him many years when he worked at the mill. After I started my shop he would pay a visit now and again for a little chat in a couple of trinkets. He paid me a visit a couple of weeks ago, a great visit I will cherish that memory forever. My condolences to all of the family.

Janice, just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of your great loss. Typically, it was while helping someone else that the accident happened--Hugh was very good at that. Whether you realized it or not, you both gave David and me real friendship when we most needed it, in our topsy-turvy world. You will never know what that meant to us, especially to David. You both accepted us as we were--a rarity for us.
I have not driven for years so could not make it out for the Celebration of Life. But I did want to let you know you both made a difference in our lives. Will hold you and yours in my prayers at this time. Take care and God bless you.

So sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. He was a great guy to go see to get a welding job done. The community will be a lesser place without Hugh. I always enjoyed talking and joking with him and his great sense of humor. Always so much fun to hear Hugh's slant on things with lots of dry humor added. RIP Hugh, you were one of a kind.

Life is precious, everyday that we have life is precious because it can end so quickly. For Hughie, it did on a Monday afternoon, doing what he loved to do, jigging around his yard and shop. Every community needs a Hughie, a fella who quietly and unassumingly did his thing, his way, always ready and willing to help out the next person that came along. He did it all, mostly refusing to take anything for it or no where near what it was really worth. You don't appreciate how valuable a Hughie is until that life, that smile, that helping hand, that next joke is no longer there. That's when you really know how much Hughie meant to us, to our community, to all our lives. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Janice, Milton and family, your loss goes so much deeper. He went out the way he would have wanted 'with his boots on'. RIP neighbour, friend. Bob and Colleen Parker

Most sincere condolences to Hughie's family and friends. Although I haven't crossed paths with him for many, many years, he always held a special place in my heart. When I was a teenager, I hung out with his sister Thelma and the late Shirley Waller. Hughie was the most patient brother, he put up with our teasing and tormenting, and uncomplainingly drove us to all the dances on the weekends in the area, and waited to take us safely home again. One night, on the way to a dance, all of us piled in the front of Hughie's 1/2ton truck, we happened upon a big moose crossing the road. Fortunately, it did not take much interest in us, so we continued without incident. I lost touch with Thelma when she moved to Ontario, but would certainly like to hear from her if she is willing. I wish I could join you on Saturday for the Celebration of Hugh's life, but have several other commitmernts that I am unable to get out of. Hugs to you all. RIP, Hughie.

Our community has lost one of its best members. Hughie could fix anything I took to him. Everybody liked him. He was full of humor. He always had a good joke or story to tell you. He always gave you good advice. He was like a precious gem which are rare and hard to find but he had a shine to him that made him stand out.He was a Stand Up Guy. We would like to give our deepest sympathies to his wife and family. Donnie and Barb Parker

I am so saddened to hear of Hugh’s sudden passing. You are in my thoughts. Even though I have not lived in the area for several decades, I have fond childhood memories of helping my dad. On more than one occasion we made a trip to have something repaired by Hugh. He always came through and was a miracle worker with fixing something seemingly in repairable.
I will never forget his quiet and kind way. Hugh is the epitome of people helping one another. This community certainly has suffered a great loss with the passing of Hugh.
