Dear Wendell and Arnet im sure you would not remember me but i came across your dad's obituary and wanted to let you know how sorry i was to see that he passed- and to let you know what great memories your dad left behind for so many people. He was my bus driver for many years and was always so kind and patient . We certainly did not deserve him. I recently lost my parents too and feel comfort when others remind me of how much they touched their lives. I haven't lived in the east coast for over 35 years but used to live in Greenhill and cherish the memories that your dad was definitely a part of. i wish you and your family many happy thoughts of your father in years to come.
Sincerely
Pauline Paterson ( Latham)

Reta and Heron family: My deepest sympathy for your loss. It was an honour to meet and visit you and George along with Rob. George had great stories and a keen sense of humour and it was amazing to see all the projects he completed. It's easy to believe Rob when he says Gramps was the best role model.

Reta and Family,
You will miss George more than I can imagine. George epitomized a life lived in steadfast service to his family and his community. He gave his all, with all his capacity in a most humble manner. His work ethic and dedication will be legendary. Reta, you were his mirror. An amazing partnership that serves as a role model for us all.
I recall George always being on the move; not a slow walk for a man in his 'retirement' years, oh no, generally at a trotting pace!
Holding you and the community gently in our hearts,
Hugs
Janet and Peter Mackenzie

We want to send our love to Reta, Graham, Wendell, Arnot and their families. George was such a loving, wonderful man. He was definitely a HERON, we always joked how those Heron men couldnt sit still for 5 minutes except to eat. Even then they were talking about what they had to do next. We live in Sarnia, Ontario but that didnt stop us from having a wonderful relationship with my moms cousin and his wonderful wife Reta and their family. We went down there on vacation when growing up and they came here and met my family. Im blessed to say my 3 boys and my brother Davids family will forever have memories to tell their children, of when they were kids playing crazy 8s and eating cookies in the back of George and Retas really cool camper in Grandmas yard. He will be so missed but so blessed to have had him in all our lives. All our Love Eva, Fred ,Jeremy, Connor, Tanner . David, Deb, Brandon,Kyle

The loss of George is huge, first to Reta, Graham, Wendell and Arnot. Please accept our deepest sympathies from Colleen and myself.George was a big part of our community, he lived in Durham for a long time and served our community and surrounding communities continously. Thank you, George. What I will remember most about George was his entrepreneurial spirit. You could never slow George down, always hustling from one place to another. I remember when he and Reta operated the garage and canteen in Durham that my grandfather had run previously. George often held five jobs at the same time. Later in life, he turned that energy to assisting his community with his super salesmanship of meals, tickets, shortcakes and, of course, pies. and he delivered them all himself, accepting a little help toward the end. I was honoured to ride with George on his final deliveries of pork suppers. I think that I was more tired after five hours than 92 year old George. Finally, George was the heart and soul of the Durham Men's Club as well as long time secretary, who read the last minutes with no glasses, the usual. It will be tremendously difficult to look across at that empty seat where George sat for many, many years. He will be missed is an understatement and he will be fondly remembered by many. You surely made your mark on this earth, George, may you rest in peace. Your friend, Bob

. My Dad and I bought my first cool car from George many years ago. A 66 Plymouth Valiant convertible ( Photo is not of actual car but just like it). I then got to know amd chum around with Wendell and discover all the old cars George had across the road from their home. George would let me get parts for my car. And friends and I would spend hours there. And check the progress on Wendells Super Bee. George was always good to us young car nuts. Cause he was one himself. My condolences to the Heron family. RIP George
