Obituary of Marg Matthews
Margaret Ann Matthews, age 75 , Westville, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at High Crest Home, New Glasgow.
Born in Westville , she was a daughter of the late Archie and Mary (Dort) MacMillan.
She was always active in the community as a volunteer and executive with several organizations; Westville and Area Minor Hockey, Pictou County Minor Hockey, Pictou County Junior "C" Hockey League, Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band, Holy Name Catholic Women’s League, and the Holy Name Parish Council, to name a few. As a teenager she worked with Sobey’s and then for several years with the Bank of Nova Scotia. She also worked many years for the Town of Westville, retiring as the Deputy Town Clerk.
She is survived by son Archie (Rhoda Richards), Halifax; daughter, Heather Horne (Murray Ingram), Beaverbank; grandchildren, Lesley Horne, West Dover; and Nicholas Horne, Halifax; and sister Lucy McCarthy (Gordon), Pictou; sister in law, Clara MacMillan, Westville; extended family, Dale Robertson, New Glasgow; and several close nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters Mary Allen and Theresa Palmer; and brothers, Morris, Alex , John , and Joe MacMillan.
Visitations will be held on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Holy Name C.W.L. will recite prayers at 4 o’clock Sunday at the Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Church of the Holy Name or the Holy Name Cemetery.
