Public visitations will be held on Friday, September 25 from 2-4pm and 6-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Masks are required to be worn.

Funeral Service

A private funeral service will be held at the Holy Name Church, Westville. The funeral service will be streamed live to the public on facebook at: Stella Maris - Holy Name Catholic Church at 11 am Saturday.

Memorial Donations

Family flowers only. Any donations, in Dad’s memory, can be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society, Pictou County VON, or Holy Name Church (Westville) Building Fund.

Obituary of Dennis Murphy

With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Albert Murphy on Saturday, September 19, 2020 and a life well lived at the age of 89. His death took place at home in Rockfield, Pictou County, surrounded by family. Dennis was born on September 14, 1931 in North East Margaree, Cape Breton, NS, and son of Martin and Alice (Doyle) Murphy. Dennis worked as a Mineral Technician for over 30 years for the Department of Mines and Energy in Stellarton until retirement in 1991. He settled in Rockfield in 1966, where he enjoyed his hobby farm and working in the woods; but most of all, enjoyed the company and friendship of his wonderful and helpful neighbours on the Rockfield and Union Road. Dennis looked forward to attending the music jam sessions in and around the county, with his wife, where they have made many wonderful friends within their music family. He was a member of the Holy Name Church in Westville, NS. Dennis was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather that enjoyed having all his children and grandchildren all home together at any occasion, but especially at Christmas! Dennis is survived by loving wife of 63 years Mary (LeBlanc), sons; George (Patsy) Fredericton, NB, Shawn, Rockfield, NS, Darryl (Shannan), Dartmouth, NS, daughters; Denise Aucoin (Roger), Port Carling, ON, Catherine DeRabbie (Bob), Canso, NS, Carolyn Rivers (John), Abercrombie, NS. Grampy will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Allison, Jenny, Amy, Mariah, Ryan, Shalyn, Nathan, Marissa, Alicia, Jeremy, Tanner, Hayden, Brenna, Allie, Lyndsey, Garrett, and Monica. Great grandchildren: Maryonna, Seth, Olivia, Emmy, Coby, Charlie Rose, Norah and Hali. Siblings: Sisters; Lillian Landsburg, Westmount, Cape Breton, Carmel Timmons (Davy) Margaree Forks Cape Breton, Ursula Butler (Pat) Kingston, Ontario, Grace McNabb (Frank) British Columbia, Brothers: Kevin Murphy (Joan) New Glasgow, Ranold Murphy, British Columbia, Hugh Murphy (Mary) Margaree, Cape Breton, Eugene Murphy (Julie) Margaree, Cape Breton. Dennis was predeceased by his infant daughter at birth, sisters: Catherine Murphy, Bernadette Murphy, Bridget McKeough, Alice Cormier; brothers: Patrick, Martin, Brother-in-law William McKeough, Allen Landsburg. The Murphy family would like to give a huge heartfelt Thank You to all the VON Nurses and Home Caregivers, along with the Palliative Care Nurses that came into our home and took such wonderful care of our father. Thank you to Dr. Jota for visiting our father at home, providing him with his medical needs and to Father Peter MacDonald for his spiritual blessings. Thank you to Dr. Finkle in the QEll HSC-VG Renal Clinic along with Nurse Trudy Lawrence and Nurse Practitioner, Devon Newell. Thank you to Arlene McRae for providing Dad’s overnight care. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Michelle, a special neighbour and friend, who has provided personal care, over the last few years, to dad and mom along with a good scrabble game. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude to Julie Murphy (sister-in-law) for staying at our home and taking such good care of our father and supporting our mother and family throughout this difficult time. Dennis is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, 1611 North Main Street, Westville with public visiting on Friday, September 25, 2-4 pm and 6-9 p. Masks are required. A private family service will be held at Holy Name Church Westville. The funeral will be live streamed at 11 am Saturday on facebook: Stella Maris- Holy Name Catholic Church. A grave side service will follow at the Heatherdale Memorial Garden Cemetery, in Sylvester, where the public are welcome to attend, while following all NS health guidelines.
