Obituary of Florence Marshall
It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Marshall, 81 of White Hill (formerly of Westville). Surrounded by family, she passed peacefully on December 30, 2020 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow on December 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Dan and Florence (Gladney) Duggan.
Sister or Sis as she was known to many, exceeded at the many jobs she held early in life with Sobeys, the Unemployment Office, The Pictou District School Board and many others until retiring for the fifth and last time from her "fifth" son’s business, Cowan Street Dental in 2008. Her favorite job though was that of being a mother to her five children, six grandchildren and the countless other friends of her children to whom she gladly took on the role as their second Mom.
Besides being a constant taxi driver to her children and their friends, driving to rinks and ballfields all over the Maritimes, she was an avid volunteer. She ran the canteen at the Westville Rink for years, volunteered at schools, and during countless provincial and federal elections. She was also a devoted member of The Holy Name Parish and the CWL in Westville, N.S.
Florence’s door was always open, and she adored having visitors drop in to see her both in Westville and later when she moved to White Hill. She was an incredible baker and always had something ready or in the oven for her guests, and to drop off to others. She was very competitive and loved a good game of Auction 45s, as long as she won. She was also a very talented singer and piano player and had recently been featured in the Nova Scotia Kitchen Party where she brought joy to many during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Florence will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 50 years, Albert; her sons Bill Chisholm (Brenda-partner), Westville, Rod (Melanie) Chisholm, St. Thomas USVI, JohnR (Helen) Marshall, Bible Hill, Paddy (Karen) Marshall, Calgary, her right-hand and best friend- daughter Kelly Marshall White Hill; Grandchildren-Nicholas, Addison, Will, Reegan, Piper, and Keaton, sister Joan (Barry) MacEachern, Chance Harbour, sisters-in-law Dorothy "Dot" Duggan, Stellarton, Isabelle Duggan, Pictou, Rosalind MacDonald, Westville, Shannon Hood, Stellarton, Linda (Greg) Pelerine, Beamsville, Ontario and Ria MacLeod, Niagara Falls, Ontario and brother-in-law Danny Chisholm, Westville.
She was pre-deceased by her first husband Sam Chisholm, brothers John "Jack" Duggan, Paddy Duggan, Wayne MacDonald, and best friend and sister-in-law Mary Marshall.
