Obituary of Lawrence "Laurie" Bates
With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of Laurie Bates, 74, New Glasgow, formally of Westville, announce his passing on Friday, January 15, 2021 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with the love of his life Jean by his side.
Born in New Glasgow, Laurie was the son of the late Donald Bates and Edna (Chambers). Laurie was a retired employee from Chignecto Regional School board as an electrician where he worked for many years. Laurie was a loving husband to Jean for over 42 years. His other love was going to his camp with his boys as often as he could and watching NASCAR. Laurie’s greatest joy was spending time with Jean, his children, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his fur grandbabies and his best friend of many years Billy.
Surviving is the love of his life Jean (Grant), stepdaughter Donna (George) Mason Stellarton, stepson Paul Grant (Mariea Leil) Eureka, grandchildren Amanda (Jared), Pine Tree Steven (Alana), MacLellan’s Brook, Kelly (Steven), Stellarton, Kevin (Alexka), Stellarton, Grant (Brenda) Stellarton. Brothers Frankie (Verna), Trenton, James (Darlene) Greenhill, Ricky (Susan) Trenton, and sister Donelda (Halifax) several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Laurie was predeceased by his parents.
If desired donations may be made in Laurie’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
In honor of Laurie’s wishes, he chose to be cremated and there will be no services held.
Laurie’s family wish to express their gratitude to all their family and friends who were there for both Laurie and Jean during Laurie’s illness making sure all the care they needed was always there for them, Dr. Horton for the amazing care he received, the VON, Amanda Jean from Palliative Care for her wonderful kind soul, the ambulance drivers and to the many QEII, Halifax specialists and staff that went over and above to help.A special thanks to Dee for all your help. The family greatly appreciates everything you have all done for Laurie and Jean.
