Obituary of Ian Roy
After a lifetime of hard knocks, we regret to announce the passing of Ian Wallace Roy at the Halifax Infirmary on February 25, 2021 at 5:00am.
Ian was born in New Glasgow on May 25th, 1954, to the late Frank and Alma (Grist) Roy. Ian was predeceased by his older brother Walter Roy.
He will be missed by his sister April (Roy) Hanson and brother Glenn Roy. He was more than an uncle to his nieces Melissa Roy, Brigitte (Roy) Ehler, Megan Hanson; nephews Sandy Roy, Brandon Roy, and Matthew Hanson; brother-in-law Hughie Hanson; sisters-in-law Solange (Belisle) Roy and Marilyn (Fraser) Roy and will be sadly missed by his great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his uncles Walter Grist and Wilfred Grist and many cousins.
He worked at Bell Aliant for 30 years and retired from the dispatch position. Not many could have gone through the many health problems that he did during his life. Diabetic at 6 years old, he bucked the problems and carried on always quick with the come back during many coffee shop conversations, he could cut down the toughest with mere words. Full of jokes and an avid lover of antique cars, taking great pride in his own, Ian will be missed by his car show friends and A&W morning as well as his afternoon Tim’s coffee buddies.
A special thanks to all those caregivers and EHS who took such great care of Ian over the years. You were the best to him, bar none.
