Obituary of Doug Matheson

George "Douglas" Matheson, 76, Glengarry, NS passed away July 7, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by his Family. Born in Glengarry, he was the Son of the late Ernest and Margaret (Martin) Matheson. He is survived by his wife Marina (Reid) Matheson, six children, Donna (Scott) Abercrombie, Elaine (Murdock) Westville, Susan (Peter) Westville, Darin Central West River, Carl (Becky) Mississauga, Lori (Alan) Lower Sackville, 18 Grandchildren, and 9 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by his Sister Nancy (George) Stellarton, Brothers Albert (Beverly) Lower Sackville and Robert (Pat) Glengarry and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Brother Neil. Doug was a veteran of the Special Forces having been stationed in Germany, Cypress and Egypt. He was an electrician by trade and retired from Michelin after 23 years. Doug was a proud, lifelong supporter of the Conservative Party. Doug had many interests in his lifetime ranging from baseball to hunting. He especially enjoyed socializing with his Friends meeting most mornings at Tim Horton’s. His all time Favorite thing in the world was spending time with his Family. That and hanging out with his best friends, dogs Dusty and Nicky. The Family would like to thank Dr Farrell, the nurses and volunteers of the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit, special Family Friend Wendy Brow, and all of those who made his final moments peaceful and full of dignity. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 10th at 2pm from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville. A reception will follow at the Westville Recreation Center. Private Family burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations can be made in his memory to the Cancer Society or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
