Obituary of Jessie Munroe

Jessie Helen (Tupper) Munroe, 97, Hopewell, passed away on July 16, 2010. Born on March 12, 1913 in Michel, B.C., she was the daughter of the late John A. and Helen (Brunner) Tupper. Following the death of her mother when she was two years old, she came to live with her uncle and aunt, Willie and Kate Tupper at West River Station. She graduated from Normal College in 1932. She was a resident of Hopewell for seventy years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a life member of the AMS. Gram enjoyed baking, making quilts, knitting and tending her flowers. She was always ready to play a game of crib. She is survived by daughters, Marlene Gillis (late Doug), Sarnia, Ont; and Hannah Dunn (Donnie), Hopewell; grandchildren, Michael Gillis (Frances), Glenn Gillis (Myra), Tim Gillis (Kelly), Larry Gillis (Janice), and Jeff Gillis, all of Ont; Randy Gillis (Sandra), Calgary; Shanna Dunn-Hoare (Peter) and Thad Dunn (Ann), both of Hopewell; Troy Dunn (Tracy), Calgary; Kim Rutledge (Duane), Linacy; Joshua Munroe (Stacey), Foxbrook, and Zachary Munroe (Kelly), Hopewell; and 23 great grandchildren. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Laurie Munroe-Montero (Ramiro), Hopewell; sister-in-law Ella Tupper, Saltsprings; brother-in-law Austin Munro, Westville; niece Clarice MacDonald (Danny), Saltsprings and nephew John Tupper, Watervale; cousins Jack Tupper (Georgie), AL., and Joan Nichols, Hopewell. Gram was predeceased by husband Cameron, son Richard, brother Clarence; son-in-law Doug Gillis and special cousins John, Rod, Preston and Basil Tupper and Lizzie Murray. Visitations will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall. Donations may be made to Hopewell Cemetery, First Church, or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Glenn Haven Manor for their compassionate and loving care given to our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during the past year.
