Obituary of Gibby Cyr
It is with sadness, we announce the death of Allan Gilbert “Gibby” Cyr, 73 of Durham. Gibby passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital, Monday, October 25, 2021 on his 54th wedding anniversary with his wife Sheryl by his side.
Born in New Glasgow on March 29, 1948, he was a son of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Cyr and grandson of the late Joseph and Sadie (Kennedy) Cyr.
Gibby worked for a short time with Eastern Tire and later at Trenton Works as a welder. He was a true Montreal Canadians fan. Enjoying the outdoors, he liked to hunt and fish, camping and going to music festivals with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sheryl (Dunbar); daughters Rhonda Pitts (Clinton), Westville; Marcia Cyr , Stellarton; and Jocelyn Cyr (Michael Charron), Sylvester; grand children, Benjamin, Kristian, Riley, Leah Rose and Kyle. He is also survived by his sister, Juanita MacKinnon, Durham and brother, Allan MacKinnon, Durham; sister-in-law, Marcia Mahoney, Lochbroom; brothers-in-law, Bill Dunbar ((Helen), Sylvester; Alan Dunbar, Toronto and Roger Dunbar (Debbie), New Brunswick, several nieces and nephews and was a special brother to the Cyr and Horne families.
Gibby was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Bill and Janet Dunbar and brother-in-law Mike Mahoney.
Thank you to the Palliative Care Doctors and Nurses for their care and a special thank you to the V.O.N. especially Lucy who listened to all of Gibby’s stories.
Public visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2o’clock Thursday from The Church of The Holy Name, Westville with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. To attend both the visitation and funeral, Proof of Vaccination and ID must be shown and masks will be required. For those who can not attend, the funeral may be watched by visiting the Facebook page of Stella Maris -Holy Name Catholic Church. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
