Obituary of Percy Oliver

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Dad & Grampy of Westville, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, with loving family by his side.

He was the son of the late Henry & Winnifred Oliver.

Percy is survived by his loving children Jennifer (Mike) Haas, Fraser’s Mountain & Doug (Susan) Oliver, Westville. Percy leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Corey and  Cody Haas and  Vicki & Allie Oliver who will miss his stories & many hours of great teasing. Also grieving his loss are sisters-in-law Madeleine MacQuarrie, Lorne;  Wilma Cameron, Hazel Glen and Vivian Oliver, Stellarton.

Besides his parents Percy was predeceased by the love of his life, wife of 52 years, Florence Eleanor Murray & by sisters Edith, Marjorie, Janie and Mary and brothers Robert & John ‘Jack’.

Percy loved all his family both immediate & extended & was immensely proud of being a grandfather. Percy enjoyed hunting & fishing, in particular spending time at his camp, as recently as November with Doug, watching & playing sports, especially hockey & baseball. His smile, his laugh & his quick, dry wit will be missed by all who knew him. Percy served his community as a member of The United Commercial Travellers volunteering in many capacities. He often could be found behind the scenes working hard, taking no credit & making lasting friendships. Percy was also a faithful Blood Donor for many years & received acknowledgment from the Canadian Blood Services for which he was proud.

Percy held a variety of jobs over his working career, including driving for Gennoes Bakery, Hicks Wholesale and  later Crouse & Choat Wholesale Ltd.  from where he retired.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the VON, Healthstone Home Care, Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital and Family First Pharmacy. Your compassion, knowledge and professionalism helped us during this difficult journey.

Cremation had taken place under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home. In keeping with Dad's wishes, the family will be celebrating his life privately. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Percy's memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, Sherbrooke Opportunities  Society or a charity of one’s choice.

You are once again with your life partner Dad and  will be missed beyond words, but we know you and Mom are watching over us,  smiling and  laughing together continuously.
