Obituary of Marie Bourque
“Where there is great love, there is great sadness”
With broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of the tie that binds so many of us together, Marie Elizabeth Bourque, only daughter of the late Leonard and Cassie (MacLellan) Jones.
Born January 19th, 1948, Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Her life was her family. She enjoyed people and made lasting friendships wherever she went.
Marie married the love of her life, John Procule Bourque, July 22nd, 1967, they spent the early years of their marriage in Ontario fostering many east coast family and friends in Azilda and Chelmsford before making their way back home to Nova Scotia in 1974. She worked various jobs before going to work at I.C.T., a place she made lifelong friendships and looked forward to going to everyday.
At the age of 62, Marie went back to school to obtain her high school diploma, she was a star pupil and excelled despite being out of school for over 45 years.
In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling in the Heather Lanes Bowling league and was an avid dart player, representing Nova Scotia in the Canadian National Women’s Dart Championship. She also loved to play cards and looked forward to the weekly games with the girls.
Marie and Johnny hosted many International Students who still kept in touch with Nanny and Papa many years after their time with them.
Marie is survived by her children Cindy (Tyke), Kim (Scott), John (Tammy), grandchildren, Taylor (Chad), Carlee (Wade), Cassidy (Riley), Johnathan (Michaela), Madelyn (Robert), and Gavin; great grandchildren Kalem, Cohen, Olivia, Henry and Brody; brothers, John (Donna), Allan, Frank, A.J. (Lorraine) and Sandy (Tammy); sisters-in-law , Rose, Cookie, Theresa (Kevin), Belle, Donna, Jean (Edison) and brother-in-law Art.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, her brothers, Deacon, Gerard, Ralph, and 2 sisters in infancy; brothers-in-law Joe, Jimmy, Fred, Tommy, Bernie; sisters-in-law Patsy, Pat and June; and niece and nephew Donna Lee and Brian.
We would like to say a very heart felt thank you to the amazing staff in the I.C.U. Aberdeen Hospital and Dr. Van Grear for their outstanding care and compassion.
Marie is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Sunday, May 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery.
