Obituary of Hannah Dunn

The family of Hannah Catherine (Munroe) Dunn is saddened to announce her passing on July 6, 2022 due to bone cancer, a fate she gracefully accepted.

Mom was born on January 11, 1941, to Cameron and Jessie (Tupper) Munroe.  Living her whole life in Hopewell, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, The Ladies Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and CGIT through out the years.

Mom loved to travel, as long as it wasn’t by plane.   She loved going for drives, often down an unknown country road, excited to see where it would take her.   Growing up, every summer Mom and Dad would pack up the car and take us on vacation, travelling to Pennsylvania USA, Ontario or PEI to visit with family.   In later years, she is enjoyed travelling by bus and train to Nashville, Newfoundland and Alberta.
Music was a big part of Mom’s life.  At a young age, she learned to play the piano.   At the age of 50, she decided she wanted to learn something new, and a fiddle player was born.  She played with the Pictou County Fiddlers for many years and most recently (pre pandemic) she played with Hannah and the Boys, providing musical entertainment around the county.

Family was always very important to Mom.  She loved to know her history and where she came from.   She spent many hours tracing and documenting our family genealogy and sharing all that she learned with us.

Mom married the boy up the road, and on June 30, 2022, they celebrated 56 years together.    While we were growing up, the house was always full of kids coming and going.  Mom was thrilled when her grandchildren came along and continued this tradition.

Mom is survived by her husband Donnie, her children Shanna (Peter), Troy (Tracy) and Thad (Ann); grandchildren Druhan, Brennan, Ethan, Alauryn and Kameryn;  sister-in-law Laurie; special nephew Josh (Stacey) as well as numerous other nephews and a niece.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings Marlene (Doug) and Richard and nephew Tim.

Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to VON Pictou County.
We would like to thank Aberdeen Palliative Care and the VON for Mom’s wonderful care and helping us  ensure that she was able to continue her journey from home.
